NFL Picks- Week 14
Hello all. Week 14 is sure to separate the contenders from the pretenders. The Jets and Giants are both looking to enhance their playoff chances, while several other teams are trying to hold on with a late-season 'charge' (pun intended.) With plenty of intriguing games on the slate, we best get to the picks. As always, home teams are in bold.
Redskins (+6.5) over Giants
In the Big Blue 2nd half schedule house-of-horrors, this was seen as the one 'light' game. Unfortunately, these 'Skins have been frisky of late. Sure they keep losing, but Washington brought Dallas to overtime, were right there with the Jets until the last five minutes, took New England to the last 30 seconds, and defeated Seattle. Eli Manning has played out of his mind of late, but the Giants defense has been just terrible. Just a hunch that this one is close.
Packers (-11) over Chiefs
The last game of meaning for Green Bay if they win, as they can lock up home field advantage. Kansas City has been non-competitive lately, and it led to the firing of their coach. I can just see a 21-0 first quarter lead and it's all downhill from there. Biggest spread of the week, but lay those points comfortably.
Saints (-7.5) over Vikings
Peterson is back, which makes this game scary. And the Titans were five yards away from beating the Saints last week, which makes this game scarier. But with the red-hot Falcons coming on, this game has serious meaning for New Orleans.
Bears (-3.5) over Seahawks
Two of my favorite non-local teams. Chicago is hanging on for dear life, while Seattle is rallying and hoping for a miracle. The Bears are decimated, but are also the more desperate team. I trust them at home.
Dolphins (+2) over Bills
Like the Chiefs, Miami also plays its first game with a new coach this week. Unlike the Chiefs, they really had no reason to fire said coach. Miami has been a tough out for several weeks, and Buffalo is lost without Fred Jackson.
Panthers (+6) over Texans
Houston took a real deep breath last week, as they secured their first division title and playoff appearance. They're now hoping to get a first-round bye, but this has trap game written all over it.
Colts (+6.5) over Titans
Hasselbeck. Orlovsky. Clash of the juggernauts. I'm not sure if Indy will win it, but they're home and the spread is generous. But Chris Johnson may ruin this rather quickly.
Bengals (-7) over Rams
Kellen Clemens....just say no.
Lions (-1.5) over Raiders
This spread seems a bit snug. Oakland has lost by a billion points the last two weeks, and Detroit has backed themselves into a corner as far as making the playoffs. Real comfortable with this one (cue an Oakland 20-point win)
Patriots (-7.5) over Broncos
Lock of the week. I can talk for days on this, but it's almost gametime and I gotta rush. A few weeks ago, a good offense like the Lions decided not to let Tebow & co hang around. Why would Tom Brady be accommodating? This one's a blowout, folks.
Cardinals (-6.5) over Browns
Rough game on the surface. But Cleveland played Pittsburgh real tough, and Arizona has been doing a whole lot of winning lately. Colt McCoy got his brains scrambled last week, so I will take the home team with their quarterback in one piece.
Jets (+3) over Eagles
Obligatory pick. This game terrifies me. Remember the Jets in their first game without Jim Leonhard last season? Philly is capable of those kinds of things on offense. This one may be miserable, but have you seen the stats of Mark Sanchez lately? Why's this Tebow guy getting all the love? Plaxico Burress jumps over the Gang Green-spurning Nnamdi Asomugha for a couple of touchdowns. I think.
Chargers (+2.5) over Ravens
After playing Cleveland and Indy the past two weeks, Baltimore may have forgotten what a good offense looks like. I like San Diego playing in their confines. Especially, ya know, since Phillip Rivers has basically never lost in December.
Upset Perfiction of the Week
Steelers (+3) over 49ers
Provided Roethlisberger plays, of course. Steelers have a division title to win, and San Fran took care of that months ago. Not the biggest of upset picks, but gotta pad the stats just a little bit.
Thanks for reading. Enjoy the games.
