The Grand Daddy of Them All

Ok, so yesterday's blog can now be voided.  Kentucky goes down to West Virginia as March gets madder and madder in college basketball.  With the Wildcats' elimination, only 3 out of the 32 NY Sport Blog contest participants still have their champion alive.  Kudos to Ryan Steele, Andrew Wooden, and Todd Bangles for still being in the hunt.

Duke currently has their hands full with Baylor right now.  If the Blue Devils go down, zero people will have their champion make the Final Four.  I called the Supreme Court, and they said that despite the paltry predictions, we are legally obliged to still give out the gift card we promised.  So it's all in Duke's hands.  Hopefully the  gift card will go to the clear-cut winner rather than the un-crappiest loser.

But enough with that real-life stuff.  Tonight is the Super Bowl of sports entertainment.  Wrestlemania XXVI, live from Arizona.  If you're a fan of wrestling, it's the best night of the year.  (If you don't believe me, just check the price tag.  $54.99 on pay-per-view.  Yeesh.)  It all gets started in about an hour, so let's pound out a quick preview of tonight's action.

Chris Jericho vs. Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship (Smackdown)
Both entertaining.  Both good wrestlers.  One is a clone of Jayson Werth.  Edge has been soaring since his victorious return in the Royal Rumble.  The majority of Royal Rumble winners indeed go on to win the belt at Wrestlemania.  But Jericho is an interesting phenomenon.  I feel as if he has done nearly every storyline as a non-champion.  Would he really be relegated back to that level just a month after winning the championship?  I don't see it.  After constant success since the Rumble, Edge is due for a hiccup.
Winner: Chris Jericho

Batista vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship (Raw)
Bigtime good guy vs. bad guy situation here.  Cena was robbed at the last pay-per-view.  Batista beat the hell out of him that night, and he has pretty much beaten the hell out of him every week since then.  Raw always seems a bit odd when Cena isn't the champion.  And besides his minutes-long reign as champ at the last pay-per-view, it's been quite a while since he's held the belt.  I think order gets restored and the good guy comes out on top.
Winner: John Cena

Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker (Streak vs. Career)
The same match happening at two consecutive Wrestlemanias?  Normally, this would be a weak way to get two headline wrestlers in on the event.  But I must say, the WWE has done a fantastic job in building up this one.  For the wrestling beginners, the Undertaker is an un-comprehendable 17-0 at Wrestlemania, including his victory over Michaels last year.  HBK considers himself 'Mr. Wrestlemania,' so he was willing to put it all on the line to try (again) to be the one to end the epic streak.  Michaels has been a legend in the business for 25 years now, and this match will be his last if he loses.  I can't see Undertaker's streak ending.  But I can't see HBK ending his career tonight, either.  It's a no disqualification match, so maybe some tomfoolery occurs to screw over the Undertaker and save Shawn Michaels' career.  At least that's what I'm telling myself.  You can do it, Shawn!
Winner: Shawn Michaels

Bret Hart vs. Vince McMahon
The very definition of all-sizzle, no steak.  Sure it will be fun to see Bret Hart in the ring again after such a long absence.  And McMahons convulsions/eye bulges/insanity when he gets beat up is guaranteed hilarity.  We all know how it ends.  Hopefully it's not too ugly to watch though.  The combined age of the two men in this match?  116 years old.  Any questions?
Winner: Bret Hart

Christian vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Kane vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Jack Swagger vs. M.V.P. vs.
Matt Hardy vs. Evan Bourne vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Kofi Kingston

Yeah, there's a lot of people in this one.  It's called the Money in the Bank match.  You win by setting up a ladder and climbing up to retrieve a briefcase.  The case represents a shot at any championship at any time.  This one is always nuts as far as using ladders and tables and whatever you can think of as ten guys go haywire on each other.  Bourne, Benjamin, and Kingston will bring some crazy jumps in as well.  You might as well play duck, duck, goose to pick a winner here.  A real crap shoot.  I'll take Captain Charisma.
Winner: Christian

Big Show and The Miz vs. John Morrison and R-Truth for the Tag Team Championship
Interesting scenario here.  The role of traditional tag teams in wrestling is clearly on the decline, as both these partnerships happened within the past couple of months.  All four men are intriguing as singles wrestlers, so I'm not sure which way they will go.  The tag team championships are 'unified,' meaning they appear on both Raw and Smackdown.  I say ShoMiz is a little better equipped to handle those duties.
Winners: Big Show and The Miz

Other Matches:

Triple H vs. SheamusWinner- Triple H

Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Ted DiBiaseWinner- Randy Orton

Rey Mysterio vs. C.M. PunkWinner- C.M. Punk

Kelly Kelly, Mickey James, Eve Torres, Gail Kim, and Beth Phoenix vs.
Michelle McCool, Layla, Maryse, Alicia Fox, and Vickie Guerrero
Winner- Male hormones worldwide.

Thanks for reading everybody.  And let's go Shawn Michaels!
